Essentially, these last two weeks are a bit of "filler". I'm not going to lie about that. I have submitted my report cards for approval by my Principal (hallelujah!!!), I'm not assessing anything any more. However, I do make this time as meaningful as possible. Tomorrow we are going to begin our last creative writing assignment, I decided that we have just enough time to work our way through the Writer's Workshop process one last time, and I'll put this final story in the back of their "Memories of Grade Two" year book that I'll be binding for them (they wrote memories of each month at school, which I'll bind together, and then we'll do a cover and back page... I think it would be good to insert a few other special assignments from this year in there, since I'm binding it anyway). We're going to write a summer adventure story, and I think I'm going to take my kids outside to sit in the shade to work on their writing.
The hardest thing for me right now is battling the heat of my classroom. I am on the second floor of my school, which is of course not air conditioned. I have two fans, and I teach with the lights off, and with the windows open. It's just so stifling hot some days though! This week it's going to be so hot here, I'm already dreading each day. I've got some plans to join the other grade two classes a few afternoons for some science videos, they are located downstairs and there is a big temperature difference just by going downstairs. Otherwise, as I mentioned, I might try to take my class out to the shade of trees a few times this week if possible... because it's typically a little cooler out there, even when it's a high temperature. It isn't as stale and sweltery as in the
I thought I could possibly handle the heat better than this, it's my first time being in a classroom upstairs but I still thought I could be tougher than this. I don't know why, but I'm just having so much trouble handling the heat! I keep feeling soooo uncomfortable and hot! I'm trying to wear light clothing, and I'm drinking lots of water... it's just so sticky and gross.
So, for the issues with the temperature alone, I am celebrating and am excited that we have only 7.5 days left of the school year. Otherwise, I am a bit sad about it, as I absolutely adore my class and will miss them so much!
