Beauty and the Beast (in Disney Digital 3D) is Released Today!

Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to attend a pre-screening of Beauty and the Beast in Disney Digital 3D.  It worked out that a few friends of mine won some tickets too, so we made an event of it!  Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favourite Disney movies, tied with The Little Mermaid, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to watch it again in theatres.

I'm going to be completely honest, 3D films are not really my favourite things.  I typically avoid 3D movies and always watch the 2D option, which they SOMETIMES still offer.  The issue is... I can't really see the 3D effects properly!  It's so sad!  I wear glasses and have pretty terrible eyesight... when I wear those 3D glasses, all that happens is the blurring effect goes away (somewhat), but then everything is like.. moving in double and I just get dizzy.  I think one of my eyes is stronger than the other or something, so the image does not sync up.

I found out a solution of sorts this time... I took out one of the lenses on the 3D glasses... if I only watched the film through one eye with the 3D lens, then I could see the movie better - it would essentially go back to looking 2D.  Eventually I realized it didn't matter that I removed a lens, I actually had to just close my right eye and watch the film through my left.  So, needless to say.... I can't really comment on how good or not good the 3D effects were, because they don't work for me.

Is this whole explanation odd and confusing?? Believe me, it's odd and confusing for me too!  But, I was so excited about seeing Beauty and the Beast, and I keep HOPING I'll be able to enjoy a 3D film, that I wasn't letting my issues with 3D hold me back from seeing this movie in theatres.

So, 3D effects aside (because I just have no idea what they were like), it was SO THRILLING to see a classic Disney movie in theatres again.  I think every child should have the chance to experience these re-releases, so that classic Disney films continue to live on through every generation.  If you're looking for a child-friendly movie to take your children to, I highly recommend you see this.  (Although, can I take a moment to beg Disney to also re-release these in a 2D format for vision-challenged folks like me?!).

Before the film there is even a new Tangled short film from Tangled directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, it's called Tangled Ever After.  Here's a sneak peak!

This was a super cute short, your kids (and you!) will love it.

So, long story short... 3D... doesn't work for me.  BUT!  Beauty and the Beast is a CLASSIC and you should totally head out to the theatre to experience the magic this weekend!

Disclosure:
Walt Disney Motion Pictures Canada sent me 2 free passes to see Beauty and the Beast (in Disney Digital 3D) at a pre-screening event so that I could bring the good news to you that Beauty and the Beast is back in theatres TODAY: January 13th, 2012!  I was not otherwise compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own (clearly, since I went ahead and knocked 3D, but better to be honest or else every movie ever will just continue to be released in 3D!).
