Your Burning Questions for a Teacher?

Hi y'all!

As you know, I'm blogging on Fridays at KahootKids.ca on the Blog Area of their deal site.  I'm writing articles from a teacher's perspective.  My audience is mostly parents.  I'm wondering -- what sorts of things are you wondering about when it comes to education?  What would you like to ask a teacher, if you could ask anything and not fear judgement (i.e. you wish you could ask your child's teacher, but feel funny about it because they're your child's teacher)?  Go ahead, ask me, honestly!

Are there educational terms that you'd like better explained?  Are you wondernig just what teachers are thinking during parent-teacher interviews?  Would you like assessment or special education or other practices explained?

I want to make sure that my articles are interesting and useful to parents, so go for it -- what are you WONDERING about education and teaching?  How can I make the topics I write about useful for YOU?

  1. I often want to know when it's appropriate to let a teacher know if an assignment is stressing the child. Like, if Edward is FREAKING OUT over his spelling words, I don't know if I should mention it---or if that comes across like I think MY child shouldn't have to do anything that's HARD for him.

  2. I'd like to know how much teachers notice/care about/deal with interpersonal issues between peers. We're not talking bullying or anything major just typical first grader girl stuff--mean girl behavior, cliques, hurt feelings etc. Seems like my daughter is struggling much more in this area than academics but I don't really consider it the teacher's problem and don't bring it up. But then I wonder if I could/should. Is that even coherent as a question? :)

  3. My kindergartener cries every single morning at dropoff. Her teacher assures me it's not a big deal and that she is fine when I leave and she always says she loves her day at school afterwards, but after nearly half a year it's really starting to wear on me (and worry me). Is it really normal? People kept saying two weeks, then two months, and now I just get sympathetic smiles, but I am kind of at a loss.

  4. Thank you for participating! These are great questions. I'm going to answer them in the form of a blog post for KahootKids.ca, I'll make sure to post a link here when the blog goes live. I'm going to aim to have these questions answered for my Friday, December 30th column!

Keep on asking other questions, guys!
